How to Fold Pants & Shorts

There are two truths I have learned when it comes to organizing:

1.) It feels good when our space is organized.

2.) It feels good when we like the way we look.

This second truth may not seem like it relates to organizing but I assure you it does. The way I see it, if you have a perfectly organized clothing closet but you don’t actually wear the clothes because they don’t fit or are no longer your style….what’s the point of an organized closet? A truly organized closet not only visually looks good but also reflects your current style with what fits and what you actually love to wear and see in your space. More on that later.

Whether you are wearing jeans, pants or shorts this season, we’ve got you covered with our folding tips here!

No matter your shelf or drawer space, these folds are our go to favorites.

For a step by step video tutorial of all of our favorite folds, check out our folding tutorial video below!
*Pro Tip - For all pant and short folds, tuck in the seat of the pants toward the middle of the leg to create a tidy fold.

JEANS

Jeans are versatile not only as a staple in most wardrobes, but also in how they can be stored. Some choose to hang their jeans and others choose to fold them. There is no wrong method as long as it works for you!

The fold featured below is our favorite file fold for jeans stored in drawers or baskets, but you can see how we fold jeans for shelf storage in the video tutorial.

SHORTS

This particular fold can be used to file fold any kind of denim or athletic shorts in a drawer or basket. For shelf storage, you can simply fold the shorts in half length wise.

ATHLETIC PANTS

The stretchy fabric of most athletic pants can create a folding challenge. The tighter the fold, the easier it is to keep your athletic wear tidy. This is a simple fold to keep your pants from sliding around in a drawer.

*Pro Tip - For an even tighter fold, try tucking the fabric into the waistline of the pants.

Alternatively, you can fold in thirds at this step.

While our team knows the ins and outs around folding clothes and organizing a closet, when it comes to feeling good with outfit styling we leave it to the pros. Enter our friend, Alli Robben, Founder and Head Personal Stylist at A Style Breeze in Cincinnati, Ohio! Alli and her team work with their clients to discover new confidence in their style through closet clean outs and private in-home styling sessions (also offered virtually), as well as curating shopping lists to find pieces that work for their unique lifestyle, routine and body type. We love when our clients work with Alli because we share the same goals - we want our clients to feel good. If working with a stylist is on your wishlist, we can’t recommend Alli and her team enough.

If you need help figuring out which folding method would work best for your closet, our team can help!
